In recent years, we’ve continued this tradition by adapting to changing needs. Our former Keaʻau office now houses East Hawaiʻi Health Clinic, a vital resource for residents. We also collaborate with local schools, offering opportunities for education and growth while preserving spaces for community enjoyment, like Herbert C. Shipman Park.
Through partnerships with organizations like Kamehameha Schools, we contribute to initiatives that strengthen local businesses, support cultural practices, and build lasting connections. At Hāʻena, hula groups and cultural practitioners share their ʻike and manaʻo, enriching the understanding of this sacred place for all involved.
Partnerships with organizations like Kamehameha Schools, Nāwahī School, and Na Ala Hele, allow us to integrate Hawaiian values into modern land use and planning. Through shared efforts, we protect and honor sacred spaces while creating opportunities for cultural education, such as huakaʻi that connect students to their heritage.
We also work closely with conservation groups to protect ecosystems tied to Hawaiian traditions, such as the nēnē at Hāʻena. By embedding respect for Hawaiian culture into every aspect of our stewardship, we aim to ensure these traditions endure for generations to come.
